Dr. James Hospedales, Executive Director at CARPHAThe HCC was very proud of our Special Advisor, Dr. James Hospedales, Executive Director at CARPHA, as he delivered his powerful remarks at the UN NCD Review NCD Alliance Side Event: 'NCDs and the Post-2015 Era: Delivering Action, Accountability and Results' held on July 11, 2014. Other Panelists included: Dr Margaret Chan, Director-General, World Health Organization, Dr Anders Nordstrom, Ambassador for Global Health, Sweden Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Dr Howard Koh, Assistant Secretary for Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and Sir George Alleyne, Director Emeritus Pan American Health Organization.

65th Annual UN DPI / NGO Conference: 2015 and Beyond Next Week!

UNICEF and NCD Child Side EventJoin CLAN (Caring and Living As Neighbours) at next week at the UN DPI / NGO Conference in New York. The theme of the conference is 2015 and Beyond - Youth4Action. This is a conference for civil society organisations from across the world to come together to shape a unified and coordinated action agenda around the post-2015 agenda. The HCC will be participating in the CLAN Workshop on August 28th. The workshop is entitled: 'Empowering Young People To Enjoy Healthy Lives – A Focus On NCDs And Collaborative Action By Civil Society In The Post 2015 Agenda'.

On Saturday August 16th, 2014 a PSA screening programme was held at Cancer Support Services. CSS were encouraged by the number of men who participated in the screening, 108 men took part in the screening programme. The Charity would like to thank all the men who participated.

Join the Global Movement to end Women's Cancers

Globeathon 2013 Barbados and GrenadaThe NCD Child: Cancer NGOs and other organisations across the world are mobilising in support the annual Globeathon event. We want the Caribbean's voice to be heard. Be a part of this global action and support the Globeathon in your country. Last year Barbados held a walk raising $28,000 USD (!) in support of the gyne-oncology programme at the local hospital and Grenada raised $10,000 ECD in support of cancer patients at the Pink Ribbon Society. You can use this event to raise awareness and raise funds for cancer prevention and treatment in your country. Join other Caribbean countries in this global effort. Mom fined for smoking in barMom fined for smoking in bar - It seemed unusual that a woman and man caught smoking cigarettes at a bar in Marabella, were brought to court yesterday in handcuffs for violating the no-smoking law. Shantel Ali Bocus, 20, of Princes Town and Marvin Trotman, 35, of San Fernando were charged separately under the Tobacco Control Act which has been in force since February 2010. The charge was laid under section 12(1) that no person shall smoke or hold a lighted tobacco product in any enclosed public place, enclosed workplace, or public conveyance.

The HCC is a regional network of Caribbean health NGOs and civil society organizations with the remit to combat chronic diseases (NCDs) and their associated risk factors and conditions. Our membership presently consists of more than 50 Caribbean-based health NGOs and over 55 not-for-profit organisations and, in excess of 200 individual members based in the Caribbean and across the globe.
